LIA

Weight for Opera Singers

PROJECT

In order to strengthen their upper body and reach optimal vocal performance, opera singers practice inserting their tail bones actively. Some of them use weights for this purpose, but specially designed weights do not exist. LIA was designed in collaboration with a professional opera singer, and with special emphasis on the characteristics of the female body. The weight is tied to the lower back, and the force it exercises encourages the singer to insert the tail bone. LIA is available in weights ranging from 3 to 10 kilograms.
I chose to combine warm materials that are right for our bodies - wood and fiber, with the cold led of which the weight is made. The fiber is tied using a traditional Japanese method.
